Some years ago I did several series of graphite illustrations for Chicago Parent, a monthly magazine. Many of the illustrations you’ll find here accompanied articles that were both serious and not so (but still meaningful)—from “How Not To Raise a Racist” to “Talk the Talk: how your children can give their best presentation.” The cover illustration (in watercolor) for the July 2003 issue, which was largely devoted to how and when children learn about race, was awarded a gold medal in 2004 by Parenting Publications of America.
